Ge Gao (Henry) is a clinical student currently enrolled at the University of Rochester Mental Health Counseling Program enjoying Problem Identification and Intervention in Counseling, Aging & Death, and Addictions Counseling and Prevention classes.

As a native Mandarin Chinese speaker,  I will bring valuable linguistic and cultural strengths to my counseling practice by having language fluency and an understanding of Chinese cultural values, family dynamics, and social expectations that shape my clients’ experiences. Besides, my cross-cultural background has equipped me with the ability to approach differences with curiosity rather than judgment. I strive to bring this openness into the counseling relationship.

Ge (Henry) Gao majored in Psychology in his undergraduate program and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Before joining Thriving Mental Health Counseling, Ge Gao (Henry) worked as a psychology teacher at Nanchang 10th Middle School in China, teaching stress management skills and providing academic support to students. Furthering his passion for adolescence mental health and working with families, he garnered a parent training instructor position at Shenzhen Zifeiyu Rehabilitation Center for Children with Autism, to provide informational and emotional support for caretakers of children with Autism.

He is excited to be apart of the Thriving Team, and is looking forward toward an hands-on experience and collaborating with clients from diverse backgrounds.
