Ge Gao (Henry) is a Mental Health Counselor with a Limited Permit in New York State. He earned his M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Rochester and his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Henry provides counseling in both Mandarin and English.
Henry works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, trauma-related difficulties, and cross-cultural adjustment. He has a particular interest in working with international students, neurodivergent clients, and individuals navigating cultural or family expectations.
Henry’s approach is primarily informed by psychodynamic and IFS-informed perspectives, with an emphasis on understanding emotional and relational patterns with curiosity rather than judgment. He works collaboratively with clients to make sense of their experiences and develop greater flexibility and choice.
As a native Mandarin Chinese speaker, Henry will bring valuable linguistic and cultural strengths to my counseling practice by having language fluency and an understanding of Chinese cultural values, family dynamics, and social expectations that shape his clients’ experiences. The cross-cultural background embraces differences with curiosity rather than judgment. Henry strives to bring this openness into the counseling relationship.
He is excited to be apart of the Thriving Team, and is looking forward toward an hands-on experience and collaborating with clients from diverse backgrounds.
